Katarina Wit started skating when she was five. Her success allowed her to show her skills and get into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted children. In this school she met their trainer Jutta Muler. Witt was able to make her mark in the year 1982 when she was second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport thanks to the grace and elegance she displayed. Olympic triumph at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female silver medal in figure skating after a close-fought competition. Four years later, that she was able to take home an even intense race. Although she lost in the free-skating competition, the gold medal was awarded to her performance on the compulsory figures, as well as on the program in short form. Witt became the very first time a repeat medalist in figure skating for women in the sport since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career acting. Witt was seventh in the competition, and she delighted fans despite not winning the medal. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
